Therapeutic Application

100Hz electroacupuncture (ST36/SP6, 1-2mA, 0.2ms pulse, 45min) selectively activates serotonergic DRN neurons. pCPA (5-HT synthesis blocker) abolishes effect, confirming serotonin necessity (Lin 2017). Frequency-selective: 100Hz=5-HT (DRN), 2Hz=opioid (enkephalin). Second mechanism: 2Hz at GV20/GV29 downregulates miRNA-16 -> reduces SERT -> increases synaptic 5-HT (Zhao 2019). Peripheral needle -> spinal -> brainstem pathway.
