✚ Therapeutic Application
Transcranial focused ultrasound (0.25MHz, 100ms pulses) targeting thalamus reduces extracellular GABA ~20% without glutamate change (Yang 2012, rat microdialysis). Acoustic radiation force activates mechanosensitive channels (Piezo1/TREK). Thalamic reticular nucleus is almost entirely GABAergic — reducing thalamic GABA disrupts thalamocortical gating, sleep oscillations, consciousness. First acoustic NT-specific TARA technique.
